Dr. Benjamin Stride is boldly taking strides to improve the healthcare landscape in his field. Not only is he a full-time general practitioner, but he is using real world issues he faces in the healthcare system to develop innovative solutions to improve the lives of patients and doctors.

How are you innovating healthtech for future patients? 

ThinkADHD was born out of the belief that effective ADHD screening, diagnosis and treatment should be available to all. It is a tool designed to take the complexity out of referrals for GPs and give patients an opportunity to explain their symptoms in detail so a quality referral can be made to mental health services. It is an online tool that is accessed freely by patients. Carefully selected questions are then asked and answers collated in a referral pack that can be forwarded to the GP for onward referral.

ThinkADHD’s mission is to improve the quality of ADHD referrals through a suite of easy-to-use, comprehensive screening and data collection tools.

How was ThinkADHD founded?

I didn’t set out to be a software or tech company, I found a problem that was annoying me at my own practice, and I thought…”Well I'm going to try to fix this.”

So I fixed it! ThinkADHD worked, and people started using it. As more people began to use it, I had to figure out what I would need for it to grow. In the end, I needed to get compliant. And that made me realize that the whole process was bigger than I ever expected.

Why is compliance awareness and accessibility so important?

The major barriers to entry innovators face are knowledge gaps and financial inaccessibility.  Unless you are a veteran or insider in the industry, you just don’t know what you need or how to get funded. 

I got a quote for compliance from another company initially, and I just looked at it and thought “this isn’t possible, we can’t do that.” It seemed the only way was through raising funds, which essentially you already need to be compliant to access those funds. It’s a catch 22.

When it comes to actually understanding DTAC compliance, I discovered that Acorn Compliance’s DTAC Squirrel™ is much like ThinkADHD. It holds your hand through every step and professionalises the process. So when you don’t know what to do, your next steps are all laid out clearly for you.

What was your biggest challenge in getting DTAC compliant?

My biggest challenge was understanding the complex intricacies of regulatory compliance. Had I not used DTAC Squirrel™, I don’t think I would have known just how much there was to do. The DTAC Squirrel™ has even prepared me for going through this process again for future innovations. 

What has been the outcome of using DTAC Squirrel™?

‍I’m more organised and thankful to have used the tool as it has helped me actually understand the process. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with Leon and Michael. My experience with the team has been a highlight of the whole experience. As I build ThinkADHD alongside a busy, full-time job, the  team has been really flexible, supportive and understanding.

After going through this process with DTAC Squirrel™ I think I’m ready to try this again in the future. I would like to continue to be an innovator.
